Fuel Cost Calculator
Find out what a trip really costs in fuel. Enter the distance, your vehicle's fuel economy and the fuel price, and see the total cost — plus the per-person cost if you're splitting it. Works in miles/gallons, km/litres (L/100km) or miles/litres.
Tips
- Round trip? Enter the total there-and-back distance.
- MPG vs L/100km: MPG is "distance per fuel" (higher is better); L/100km is "fuel per distance" (lower is better). Pick the units that match how your car reports economy.
- Carpooling with the split field shows how much each person chips in.
FAQ
How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Divide the distance by your fuel economy to get the fuel used, then multiply by the price per unit. For example, 100 miles at 30 MPG uses 3.33 gallons; at $3.50/gallon that's $11.67. The calculator does this for you in MPG, L/100km or km per litre.
Does it work with MPG and L/100km?
Yes. Choose your unit system and the labels switch accordingly — miles with MPG and price per gallon, or kilometres with L/100km (or km per litre) and price per litre.
Can I split the cost for carpooling?
Yes — set the number of people and the tool shows the per-person share of the total fuel cost.
Should I enter one-way or round-trip distance?
Enter whatever distance you want the cost for. For a return journey, put in the full there-and-back distance.
