Sales Commission Calculator
Work out your commission and total earnings from your sales. Enter your sales, commission rate, and (optionally) a quota you must beat first and a base salary. Updates as you type.
How it works
commission = (sales − quota) × rate
total pay = base salary + commission
- Quota — only sales above it earn commission; set to 0 if you earn on every sale.
- Base + commission — fixed pay plus what you sell; the calculator totals both.
- Commission share tells you how much of your pay is performance-based vs guaranteed.
An educational estimate of a flat-rate plan. Real plans may use tiers, accelerators, draws or caps. Gross, before tax. Not financial advice.
FAQ
How is sales commission calculated?
Multiply your commissionable sales by the commission rate. Commission = sales × rate. If you have a quota, only sales above it count, so commission = (sales − quota) × rate. Add any base salary to get total pay.
What is a commission quota or threshold?
A quota (or threshold) is a sales level you must pass before commission starts. With a $10,000 quota and $50,000 in sales, only the $40,000 above quota earns commission. Leave the quota at zero if you earn commission on every dollar.
What is the difference between base salary and commission?
Base salary is fixed pay you receive regardless of sales; commission is variable pay based on what you sell. Many sales roles combine the two — this calculator adds your base to your commission to show total earnings.
How do I work out commission as a percentage of total pay?
Divide commission by total pay (base + commission). It tells you how much of your income is at-risk, performance-based pay versus guaranteed salary — useful when comparing roles or pay plans.
